This is the type of information that will be shared within the course.

Diet

More antioxidants, more fiber, less sugar: antioxidants (e.g. strawberries, sweet potatoes, green tea) kill “free radicals” which are lung cell killers; fiber (e. g. strawberries, oatmeal, popcorn) is anti-inflammatory which aids in breathing; sugar causes inflammation in the lungs

Belly Breathe

Use the whole lung so more oxygen gets into the red blood cells; most people breathe with only the upper lung which doesn’t optimize the whole lung; when breathing in, the belly rises, not the chest.

Pursed lip breathing out

Or breathing in and out through the nose as much as possible; when breathing through the nose, nitric oxide is created which creates more of an opportunity for oxygen to get into the red blood cells

Alternate nostril breathing

Before working out breathing should come more from the right nostril (body’s gas pedal); when relaxing, more breathing should come from the left nostril (body’s brake pedal

Upright posture

Poor breathers lurch heads forward and sit slouched; sit up straight.
